Jumping!!

Do you enjoy jumping??
Do you ever feel like your flying when you jump??
Would you be an Olympic show jumper if you had the chance to??
Well I certainly would! I love jumping even though I only started a little while ago. Did you know one of my friends actually taught me to jump!!
She was really good and patient when I kept on forgetting to do something. Now I can jump the small crate jumps confidently on Co coa!!
I learnt to jump on Jesse but she has moved to Rapid creek stables but I see her every now and then.

MAI!!! The topic is JUMPING not Jesse lol. A lot of practice is needed to become a good jumper like my friends, but I and I am sure you horse lovers are up to the challenge!!!

I love watching people jump their horses. It's so fascinating and interesting to see how they jump. I learn a lot as well!!
Email me if you like jumping or a story about you jumping at mairose.mini@hotmail.com

Try it!

I want your opinion

What is your opinion???
Do you think that judges like a really bulky braided tail or a a thin braided tail?

My opinion is that I like a thin braided, this is because I think they look neater and more beautiful!
Anyway comment or email your opinion to mairose.mini@hotmail.com!

Falling of a horse

Hey you horsey people!!!!

Have you ever fallen off a horse and been to scared to get back on?? or have you fallen off a horse and people laugh you and say your not a good rider?? or even fallen of and feel bad and a bad rider??
Well one thing that you should know to riding horses, every time you hop on a horse there is a risk to falling off or getting hurt, even for Olympic riders! And if you do, the longer you leave to not getting back on the harder it gets!!! Also guess how you become a good rider????

Well thats of course FALLING OFF (note - dont fall off a horse on purpose) I have always been really proud of my falls on a horse, I dunno why I just feel really proud of myself when I fall and get back on!! Often though I fall in the funniest situation and the only thing i can think to do is LAUGH my head off and make stupid jokes about it. My friends from Joshels are also there to help me and make sure Im not hurt. never I repeat never feel bad about yourself if you fall of. Think of it this way the more you fall off the more experience you have to falling off and in a really dangerous situation you should have a fair idea on what to do like falling of!!! lol

Bareback

i never really in the past had the courage to ride many horses bareback. when i rode larger horses bareback i felt like i had no control. when i rode smaller horses i nearly had too much. i have had more bareback falls than any other falls ( i've only fallen off 3 times and only 1 was at joshels) when i fell off a horse for the first time it was when i was 9 at my grandads place on his miniature bareback and i grabbed onto a tree branch above me and fell to the ground. my second fall was also a silly fall i was cantering a horse called tokyo and i couldn't make up my mind which way to go around a tree and i chose too late and slipped off, i wasnt in pain but i did get itchy from the grass i fell in.... my 3rd fall there was no other horse to ride and my saddle was in use i was on toffy in the roundyard and saw not much point staying on so when she bucked i let her throw me but because i was paying for a ride i sat on her at a walk for half an hour. when i started going to saturday and doing more bareback i rode cola one day and he was bucking and carying on but i remained seated!!! it was an ok ride. when i rode cosmo bareback more and more i got used to him and decided it wasnt so bad or so hard. i started to feel closer to him and he paid more attention to what i wanted him to do. i've never tried cantering him bareback but i've done heaps of trotting and walking on him. he makes me
feel the real horse i'm riding with.

Another...

when i first met cosmo i thought he was a thoroughbred so i was afraid of him because of how flighty thoroughbreds are. when i rode him in a mini dressage test sonya gave me i started to warm up to riding him but i still disliked him. i prefered riding betty but i liked cantering and she was getting too old for it.... most of the time i wouldn't have a good horse to canter on.... but the one lesson rachel took me in the green house on cosmo and i cantered him all around the greenhouse for the first lesson and i felt as close to flying as i could possibly get. so i started to ignore the dislikes i had for him and preffered riding him. then the holiday program came and i rode him 24/7!!!! when i took him on the laneway for the first time i knew he would play up but i didn't care. when he started to do him crazy canter i ignored it and waited for the fence where we could stop. he continued this for a while but i started to loosen the reins and let him find his own comfort and he did... then i started to take it to the next step......jumping he was a great jumper but a little cheeky. when you rose into the 2 point seat he'd just trott over but when you sat normaly he would leap!!! he gives you a slight shock in a good way... now i ride him all the time. some of the girls thing i try to ride him western when i can't but you know what i don't care about heels down or tight reins or shoulders back... cosmo brings out the real rider in me...

A short story from my friend

when i did my course certificate I and II racing (stable hand) i had to stay at a stable from 4am to 5pm (11hrs)
during that time i got up and dressed and dad would drive me to taminnmin high where trudy clarke would drive us to the stables at the back of the racetrack. i went to the stables of s. clarke. he was pretty nice and showed me around and introduced me to all his staff. there was david who owned one of the horses there. he would take 2 or 3 horses swimming in the mornings and show me how to steer them in the water. then there was another lady ( i don't remember hername) who washed the horses and helped muck out. they were full time workers. david would take me out to the track entrance with the stables jockey ( can't remember his name either) he was nice and very curious about how i ride. the only bad thing about watching the horses on the track was that there were heaps of sand flies that lived in the grass and bit me!!! when all the morning jobs were done at about 9am everyone would go home for about 5 hrs until 2pm... i stayed at the stables and spent my time sleeping, reading, talking to the pool cleaner, spending time with the horses and getting attacked by the cat. when it was 2pm the part time workers came and they were about my age. one was chelsea. chelsea rides at wongabilla and i spent most of my afternoon worktime with her doing jobs... horses werent ridden in the afternooons, i mucked out, groomed and washed the horses and swept the floor. the horses names i cacn't really remember but there was sheky, lewy, rishi, and about 6 others. i also learned to put on a jockey pad (saddle) which was slightly hard....

RIVA-MAY

Riva-May won her class this morning and I am sure everyone is very proud of her. Well done Riva!!!! I will see if I can get some pictures of her...

Why do people show horses??

So why would people show horses when its so stressful, time consuming and money spending?
Well this is my opinion (mainly for the pony club ring) Showing can be stressful and a race against the clock but once your out there its time to have fun. One of my friends didn't have the best day at Freds Pass but guess what..... She still had an amazing day!! Just because she was nearly killed by a horse (exagerated line) and her show horse went lame at the end of the day (8:30) she still had a smile on her face. Thats one of the things that everyone at Joshels loves about her, she always looks on the bright side of life!!!!!! I love watching my friends compete and cheering for them!!!!
